From October 16, 2021 to June 19, 2022<\/strong>, the Nantes history museum<\/strong> presents an exhibition on the theme of Slave Trade<\/strong> and on the colonial past of his city through an exhibition called "\u00a0L'Ab\u00eeme, Nantes in the Atlantic slave trade and colonial slavery, 1707-1830<\/em><\/strong>\u201c. Between the 17th century and the 19th century, more than 500,000 slaves boarded Nantes ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The directors of the museum wanted to show this dark part of French history<\/strong> thanks to unique collection pieces, allowing via this material reality to see in detail what this trade, this deportation and this dehumanization was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum has chosen a exposure <\/strong>in part immersive<\/strong>, in which the digital <\/strong>must allow the visitor to better realize the reality<\/strong> lived by the captives locked up in these huge slave ships.
In one of the rooms, we had the task of immerse the visitor <\/strong>on board of The Seraphic Mary<\/em><\/strong>, vessel <\/strong>who took an active part in the Atlantic slave trade in the 18th century, with "\u00a0Crossing<\/em><\/strong>" , a immersive video projection on the floor and on the walls<\/strong>, supported by a sound design<\/strong> very absorbing, which reconstitutes the Atlantic crossing<\/strong> and the deplorable living conditions on board these ships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The projected images on the ground<\/strong> and on the two parallel walls<\/strong> are from two watercolors <\/strong>collections from Nantes history museum<\/strong>, on a soundtrack, produced by Martin Gracineau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technically<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key word of the installation was the discretion<\/strong>, the perfect integration<\/strong> in the scenography<\/strong>, and the ban on to stare <\/strong>in the listed frame of the building. The materials had to be white<\/strong>, and fixed on a long wooden ladder positioned on the ceiling on the beams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The floor is covered by a projection of the deck of the ship The Seraphic Mary<\/em><\/strong>, produced with 2x video projectors EPSON EB-L1050U<\/a><\/strong> and wide angle optics<\/strong> ELPLU03S<\/strong><\/a>.

The 5x projectors <\/strong>are connected to 5x media server<\/strong> Module Pi Nano<\/a><\/strong> set wired network<\/strong>. One of them serves as the main control (Master<\/strong>) and is connected to a multi-channel sound card<\/strong> for the spatialization <\/strong>sound in the room, as well as a system DMX \/ ArtNet<\/strong> in charge of managing thelight atmosphere<\/strong> of the room.
The system is fully synchronized to the PLC Crestron <\/strong>of the museum so that it can be switched on and off during exhibition times, and can be handled manually<\/strong> with a remote control StreamDeck <\/strong>if needed.
A system of 4G remote control<\/strong> was installed in order to guarantee rapid intervention times for the operations of control <\/strong>and of maintenance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
